NorthTec acknowledges that the region's high schools require active, practical and informed relationships with the polytechnic if tertiary study opportunities for high school leavers in Northland are to be nurtured for those people who wish to remain in Northland for tertiary study.
Programmes for Youth
- STAR is a nationwide programme funded by the government. It's specific aim is to prepare senior high school students for either the workforce or further training in a chosen field, or tertiary study in its many different forms, including Modern Apprenticeships.
- Tasters are non-unit standard Non Unit Standard activities
designed to ‘taste’ various NorthTec programmes on offer.
- Experience NorthTec - Choose from the following activities to build your knowledge of NorthTec.
- FarNet - Engaging e-Learning in Te Tai Tokerau.

Sport and Recreation Student for a Day
Are you interested in the Sport and Recreation programme? NorthTec is holding four Sport and Recreation taster days on 11 May, 8 June, 3 & 24 August 2012. Enrolments are open for these popular days held at the ASB Stadium in Whangarei. Download the

School Visits
We are happy to talk to students about NorthTec courses. We can do this in several ways:
- Attendance at your school’s Careers Evening
- Presentations to specific students
- Arranging for NorthTec tutors to present their area of expertise to a class
Campus Tours
We also offer campus tours. Students from Years 10 to 13 can come to our campus to take part in a number of fun and educational activities which will help them learn about tertiary study at NorthTec.
