Overview This programme is designed to provide a broad range of skills to enable you to either work within the horticulture industry or to begin your own commercial horticulture enterprise.
Content Graduates will be able to:
- Maintain and manage health and safety in the horticultural workplace
- Apply an understanding of commercial horticultural production systems
- Apply specialised horticultural skills including permaculture and landscape planning and design
- Apply research skills to source, critique and synthesise information with guidance
- Apply solutions to problems encountered in a horticultural operation.
Career Options
- District and Regional Councils, orchards and nurseries as leading hands or forepersons.
- Be able to work in a consultancy capacity within the horticulture industry

Further Study
Admission Information School leavers require an average of 14 or more NCEA Level 2 credits in three Year 12 subjects, with preference for English, science and horticulture.
Students over 20 will be considered on a case by case basis.
Applicants with qualifications in science and related fields or people with experience in environmental management will have an advantage.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language require a minimum IELTS score of 5.5.
