Overview
To provide both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge for entry into the marine cabinetmaking and cabinetmaking trades.


Content
Graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of boatbuilding marine
    cabinetmaking techniques
  • Demonstrate knowledge of general design and drawing as it relates
    to boatbuilding and cabinetry
  • Demonstrate the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to handle
    commonly used materials and to work safely in a cabinetmaking
    workshop
  • Perform calculations and produce drawings associated with marine
    cabinetmaking
  • Demonstrate knowledge of composite and timber construction
    and the use of common equipment associated with composite
    construction, including vacuum pumps
  • Demonstrate knowledge and the use of equipment used in boat
    construction including hand tools, power tools, and machines,
    including band saws, buzzers and thicknessers
  • Demonstrate the ability to be a safe, useful and productive member
    of a work team.

Admission Information
Applicants must be 16 years of age or older on the 1st of January in the year that the student enrols, unless approved otherwise by the Programme Leader.


Students must be able to demonstrate evidence of suitability based on
interview and/or portfolio.


Applicants for whom English is not their first language require a minimum IELTS score of 5.5.

Credit towards National Certificate in Boatbuilding (Level 4)
