Overview To provide both the required practical skills and theoretical knowledge for entry into the automotive trades. The course builds on the National Certificate in Motor Industry (Entry Skills) (Level 2) by including the overhaul of practical systems such as brakes, clutches, engines, fuel pumps and transmissions.
Content Graduates will be able to:
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of automotive theory, concepts, and trade practice and apply that knowledge to the automotive industry
- Demonstrate the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to work
safely in an automotive workshop
- Discuss the knowledge and application of relevant legislation, codes
of practice, and standards relating to automotive engineering
- Discuss the content and requirements of an apprenticeship contract
- Demonstrate generic skills and knowledge relating to working
effectively in the automotive industry
- Demonstrate the ability to be a safe, useful and productive member
of a work team from the first day of his/her employment.
Admission Information Applicants must hold a current restricted driver’s licence by the commencement of the assessment of Unit Standard 249.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language require a minimum IELTS score of 5.0.
