About the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Level 3)
This is a minimum 50 credit programme with a minimum of 40 credits at level 3 and above.
It is made up of:
- Compulsory standards – 11 credits
- Elective A – A minimum of 25 credits as specified
- Elective B – Balance
This qualification is designed to accommodate the needs of a wide cross section of industry personnel. The qualification provides evidence of the attainment of an intermediate level of workplace health and safety knowledge as well as recognising competencies associated with a range of workplace safety and health issues from specific industries.
This qualification has been designed to enable it to be used by a number of different industries. The compulsory section covers the common health and safety skills and knowledge required by all industries whereas the elective sections enable different industries to choose the standards, domains, or subfields that suit their requirements.
Candidates completing this qualification would be able to progress to the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Co-ordination) (Level 4) [Ref: 0944] if they wished to become occupational safety facilitators. About the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Level 4)
This is a minimum 65 credit programme at level 4 and above.
It is made up of:
- Compulsory Standards – credits 31 credits
- Elective A – 24-34 credits
- Elective B – 10 credits
This qualification is designed for all industries and has a flexible structure to meet different needs. It is intended that safety supervisors, co-ordinators or team leaders will be the main candidates for the qualification. The content assumes the candidate is a holder of the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) (Level 3) [Ref: 0801] or has equivalent experience, and as such has a good grounding in safety specific practices within industry. The Compulsory and Elective A sections of the qualification focus on the practical management of occupational safety and health in the workplace, while the Elective B section allows candidates to select skills and knowledge relevant to their sector of industry. About the Certificate in Applied Work Practice
This programme has now been superseded by the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) (Level 3). Dependant on when students were initially enrolled into AWP, students may be able to complete the Certificate in Applied Work Practice programme through transition into the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) (Level 3). Training will be carried out from the SafeTrades North Training centre at the NorthTec Future Trades campus, 19 Dyer Street, Raumanga, Whangarei 0110.
The Training Centre facilities enable SafeTrades North to offer OSH induction and skills based training for Northland industries in a worksite environment.
In addition to its own staff, NorthTec contracts specialist industry trainers to ensure all training is of the highest industry standard.
